Pack Structure

This page describes the Pack structure and information for each level.

The Cub Scout Den:

  • Your son or daughter is a member of a Cub Scout Den.
  • Dens are boy-only or girl-only.
  • The Den usually meets 2 or more times a month.
  • The Den is led by a Den leader (a parent volunteer).
  • The Den Leader is assisted by an volunteer assistant Den Leader or parent.
  • Den meetings include achievement work, games, activities and fun.

The Cub Scout Pack:

  • The Pack is made up of several Dens.
  • Your child is a member of a Cub Scout Pack. We are Pack 71.
  • Our Pack has monthly activities where all the Dens and families participate together.
  • The Pack meeting is led by the Cubmaster.
  • The Pack receives a charter from a Boy Scout Council and a chartering organization (see below).
  • Pack 71 received it charter from the Grand Canyon Council.
  • The Pack is a member of a district within the council.
  • Pack 71 is a member of the Gila River District.

The Pack Committee:

  • The Pack is run by a Pack Committee of volunteers.
  • The Pack Committee consists of administrative committee members, the Cubmaster and Assistant Cubmaster, Den leaders and assistants, and Webelos leaders and assistants.  
  • All committee members are volunteers giving their time and talents to provide a quality program for the members of the Pack.
  • The Committee plans the Pack Meetings and activities for the year and manages pack finances, orders awards, and maintains Pack equipment.
  • All parents are welcome to attend the Committee Meetings typically held on the third Monday of each month over Zoom.

The Chartering Organization:

  • The Pack is chartered to a charter organization.  
  • Pack 71 is chartered to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.
  • Charter organizations include schools, parent associations, religious organizations, service clubs, and other groups interested in youth.
  • The charter organization approves leaders, provides support, and operates Packs within the guidelines and policies of the chartered organization and the Boy Scouts of America.
  • The charter organization selects a charter organization representative who serves a liaison between the Pack and organization.
