Each Cub Scout will be given a pinewood derby kit, containing a small block of wood and plastic wheels typically at the December Pack Meeting. Scouts and parents design, carve and paint each car together in accordance with BSA specifications. The Scouts race within their den and trophies are awarded in various categories. Each of these winners then competes for top honors within the Pack. We encourage parents to help in the construction of the derby cars. The Pack Pinewood Derby is typically held in early spring.
Cubs may also compete in the Gila River District Pinewood Derby whether they win at the Pack level or not. Winners from the Gila River District Pinewood Derby are invited to participate in the Grand Canyon Council Pinewood Derby.
